NEW: Information for patients on COVID-19 testing, symptoms and visiting the surgery.

With more and more cases in the area, we at the practice thought it would be helpful to go over advice regarding Covid symptoms and testing and also bust a few ‘myths’.

We have online appointment availability - please ask the reception team to register you.

Extended Hours are provided by all GP Surgeries in Derwentside evenings and weekends - please ask the receptionist for information or to arrange an appointment for you.

If you wish to order your prescription online please register on this website, if you are not registered please ask the receptionist to register you. We also have the availability of Electronic Prescribing Service, whereby you register with a chemist of your choice and your prescription is automatically sent directly to them. Please ask the receptionist for details of this service. We would be most grateful if you could complete our Friends and Family test either in the surgery or on this website.

We provide extended hours at both surgeries from 7.30 to 8am on Mondays at West Road, Annfield Plain and 7.30 to 8am on Thursday at our Louisa Surgery in Stanley.

Every patient on our list now has a named GP however your are still able to see the GP of your choice.

Practice Policies

Rights & Responsibilities of patients

Patients are asked to keep appointments – if they are unable to keep an appointment, please inform the reception staff as soon as possible.

Removal of Patients

Violent patients and those who threaten violence will be removed from the practice list forthwith. Those who are verbally abusive may be given a warning or may be removed from the list at the discretion of the partners.

Access to patient details.

Only doctors, nurses and other professional staff such as midwives, and medical secretaries have access to medical records. No information will be disclosed to other persons without the patient’s written consent.

Summary Care Records

We as a practice have chose to opt of patient details being included in the summary care records due to our insecurities regarding protecting confidential information regarding the patient's record. If you would like to discuss this or feel this is something you would like an opinion on, please contact Audrey Allan at the West Road Surgery. Our participation in the summary care record was discussed at the patient forum and it was decided unanimously that this was the preferred aciton to take.
